Beliefs

Things I hold to be true, for now

A running list, from my head to your screen. Some of these will change; that is the point.

Growth

  • Growth is something you do, not something you read about. If nothing changed in your behaviour, you did not learn it.
  • Thirty days is long enough to find out if you actually want something. Try it, then decide.
  • You do not need permission to change your life. You only need to start before you feel ready.
  • Nobody is coming to fix your life. That is not bad news; it means the tools are already in your hands.

Courage

  • Fear is a compass. The thing you are avoiding is usually the thing to do next.
  • Comfort is the most expensive habit you can afford.
  • The worst rejection is the one you gave yourself by not asking.

Integrity

  • Say what you will do, then do it. Everything else, from confidence to trust, follows from that.
  • Being liked and being honest sometimes point in different directions. Pick honest.
  • Keep your word to yourself at least as well as you keep it to others.

Work and money

  • Build things that make someone’s life better, and let money be the receipt.
  • A job you cannot leave is not security; it is dependence with a salary.
  • Owning your work, even a small piece of it, changes how you think about time.
  • Focus is a decision about what to ignore.

People

  • Say the true thing kindly, and say it early. Most conflict is a conversation that came too late.
  • You become the average of what you tolerate.
  • Give without keeping score; the people who matter notice anyway.

Meaning

  • Meaning is not found; it is decided. Choose a purpose and let it shape your days.
  • Time is the only thing you spend without knowing the balance. Act like it.
